From September 24 to 30, 2023, a delegation from the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) will visit key educational institutes in Kenya to gain firsthand insights into Kenya's successful management of curriculum and assessment reforms as part of a learning exchange and benchmarking visit.

Uganda is in the process of transitioning its primary education curriculum from knowledge-based to competency-based, along with the piloting of the Early Grade Math Assessment (EGMA).

Given that Kenya is already advanced in implementing a competency-based primary education curriculum and has piloted the EGMA, there is an opportunity for key education officers from the MoES to visit the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Kenya National Examinations Council, selected primary schools, and other critical departments to benchmark adaptable best practices toward a competency-based curriculum and assessment.

Supported by the KIX Africa 19 Hub, this experiential learning visit will help Ugandan experts ensure that the three elements — curriculum, assessment, and pedagogical practices — are well-aligned during the curriculum development process.
