The KIX evaluation, which included a strong focus on the KIX Hubs, showed that this joint initiative between the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is relevant and well-positioned for impact, given its results to-date. KIX has thus been extended until 2027, to build on its successes in the exchange of knowledge and innovations, as well as the working links established not only between countries, but also with strategic regional and international partners.

The KIX Africa 21 Hub intends to use this new phase as an opportunity to accelerate the process of institutionalising a culture of knowledge and innovation sharing, including the creation of institutional spaces for reflecting on how to identify, validate, integrate and scale up proven innovations and knowledge relevant to the challenges facing countries in the region.

The guiding principles of the KIX Africa 21 Hub support inclusive and participatory approaches. Therefore, it is important at the start of this extension to bring the key players in education together to build a shared understanding of the goals and strategies of this new phase of KIX and strengthen uptake and ownership.

To this end, the KIX Africa 21 Hub is hosting a regional workshop to launch the KIX extension. It will support countries, in particular the National Coordination teams, to understand the philosophy and the organisational, human and financial resources available through KIX in order to strengthen the culture of sharing knowledge and innovations throughout the region.

The workshop is scheduled to take place from September 29th to October 2nd, 2023, both in-person in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) and virtually. The working language will be French, with Portuguese translation.

The KIX Africa 21 Hub has invited the following participants to this important meeting:

  • representatives of the national coordination teams of the 21 countries (including the Focal Point)
  • members of the Consortium's Steering Committee and Technical Committee
  • representatives from GPE and IDRC (KIX sponsors)
  • representatives from KIX applied research projects
  • the KIX Africa 21 Hub technical team
  • representatives from strategic partner organisations
