Workshop boosts regional development of EMIS in the Eastern Caribbean

KIX LAC EMIS Workshop

On June 4 and 5, a regional workshop on Educational Information and Management Systems (EMIS) was held in Grenada, with the objective of advancing towards a shared approach for the development of these systems in the Eastern Caribbean. This meeting represents a key step towards regional integration and collaboration on educational data and is part of a collaborative effort that responds to an express request from the region's Ministers of Education, who promoted coordinated action through the EMIS Working Group.

The KIX LAC Hub - an initiative that is part of the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX), a joint endeavour with Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and led in Latin America and the Caribbean by SUMMA and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) - has played a key role in supporting this regional priority.

The country delegations that participated in this activity included the four countries that are part of KIX LAC-Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica and Grenada-along with Saint Kitts and Nevis, the British Virgin Islands and Antigua and Barbuda. Representatives of the Information Systems Units were present, as well as key institutions working in this area, such as the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the University of Oslo, the SKIP Project, the NEWLO and TAMCC Colleges of Higher Education, Grenada's ministerial authorities, SUMMA and the OECS.

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to regional collaboration, strengthening Education Information and Management Systems, and advancing the digital transformation of education in the Eastern Caribbean.
