Multilingual foundational learning: validation of teaching materials in Senegal
A workshop to validate teaching materials was held from Tuesday February 4 to Friday February 7, 2025, at Fatick Academy in Senegal. Organized by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) and the Direction de l'Enseignement élémentaire (DEE), it brought together key education stakeholders to ensure a suitable review and therefore update the teaching materials.
This workshop is part of the project to strengthen teacher professional development for multilingual foundational learning at scale. It was supported by the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX), a joint initiative with the International Development Research Centre, Canada.
The event brought together agents from the Ministère de l'éducation Nationale (MEN), inspectors, school principals and teachers from Fatick and Gossas, who conducted an in-depth study of the teaching materials. At the end of the project, these were evaluated and revised to ensure their relevance and effectiveness.
This meeting, which represents a key step in the development of innovative and inclusive teaching solutions, is helping to improve the quality of education in Senegal and the region.
The KIX Africa 21 Hub actively participated in this workshop and reaffirmed its commitment to working with AIR and MEN in Senegal to support this strategic initiative. The methodology adopted integrates the dimensions of gender equality and social inclusion, guaranteeing a more equitable approach adapted to local realities.
Coordinated by the American Institutes for Research (AIR), the project will be implemented in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo from July 2024 to March 2027.
