On February 20, 2024, the final event on the results of the research project “Distance learning to improve the quality and access to school education in Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Tajikistan” (conducted from 2021-2024) was held in Bishkek. The project was implemented by the Consortium of three NGOs "Taalim-Forum" (leading organization). The main results of the research conducted in Kyrgyzstan were presented to 80 offline and 30 online participants, including representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, its subordinate institutions, international and local organizations, and educational institutions, experts, educational consultants, researchers and project teams of the three countries of the Consortium.
Lira Samykbaeva, the Deputy Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, in her welcoming speech, emphasized the importance and timeliness of this research, at a time when the Ministry is addressing the challenges related to the development of ICT competencies of teachers, automation of education management, and improving the quality of students' knowledge through access to online resources. She noted that the contribution of civil society and independent experts in the field of education helps “to orient in time and space: where we are, where to start from”.
Julia Levin, Knowledge Lead of KIX EMAP Hub noted that the implementation of this project demonstrates the potential of applied research in the development of educational policies. Active involvement of stakeholders in the discussion of the research results lays a good foundation for future innovations in education in Kyrgyzstan. The research and recommendations give us insight into ways to improve access to quality education and will serve as a reference point in shaping strategies.
The presentation of the research results was received by the audience with interest, and questions were asked regarding the research in the Consortium countries, as well as the obtained index of readiness for distance learning.
