The GPE KIX LAC Hub holds a seminar on quality early childhood education standards
The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) hub, part of GPE KIX—a joint endeavour with Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC), led by SUMMA and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)—held a seminar on September 10 entitled, Towards Quality Early Childhood Education: Standards, Teacher Training, and Pedagogical Practices, which marked the beginning of the third sub-cycle of the Knowledge Mobilization Cycle on the Use of Evidence for Early Childhood Education.
The meeting brought together experts from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Ministry of Education of Dominica, the Ministry of Education of Guatemala, the Rassmuss Foundation, and Hands Across the Sea, who shared their experiences and reflections on the quality of early childhood education in the region.
During the day, participants discussed the challenges of implementing standards in various contexts, the role of curriculum frameworks in promoting more equitable educational transitions, and opportunities for strengthening teacher training and promoting inclusive and sustainable teaching practices. In addition, the seminar included a discussion forum in which participants were able to ask questions of the speakers, generating an enriching dialogue that allowed for a deeper exploration of the topics addressed and linked them to the concrete realities of the region.
