Event Highlights: KIX EMAP Webinar 22 - The Future of Education Technology in South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa
On 4 December 2024, the KIX EMAP Hub hosted Webinar 22 on “The Future of Education Technology in South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa”. The event was attended by more than 120 participants from over 35 countries.
The webinar started with an introductory remark by Rasha Sharaf, GPE KIX EMAP Knowledge Lead for South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa (SAMENA) sub-region. The webinar featured four speakers: Evans Atis, Education-Economist, Global Partnership for Education (GPE); Akanksha Bapna, Senior Research Fellow, ODI Global; Mohamed Elnaggar, Professor of Education Technology, National Egyptian E-Learning University; and Adel Gaaloul, Senior Digital Transformation Consultant, World Bank.
After the introductory remarks, Evan Atis delivered the first presentation “Technology for Education: Evidence and Learning”. He focused on the current situation of education in South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, assessing the technology utilisation in education in SAMENA countries and how GPE supports the countries in the sub-region. The second presentation “Scaling up EdTech in Bangladesh” from Akanksha Bapna, explored the structure of the EdTech system in Bangladesh, its various elements and stakeholders, the existing barriers to innovation and scaling and what are the key factors for change.
The third presentation was delivered by Mohamed Elnaggar on “Strengthening the Capacity of Egyptian Teachers to Use Technology for Innovations in the classroom”. He highlighted the Egyptian Ministry of Education’s (MoE) focus on teaching technology for teachers for skills development, how to use digital tools, current MoE online education platforms and emerging challenges that hinder employing education technology in classrooms. The final presentation was delivered by Adel Gaaloul on “The challenges of a citizen-centred public policy for the digital transformation of education in Tunisia”. The presentation addressed the strategy for the digital transformation of education in Tunisia, the challenges in delivering digital services, the GovTech program that focuses on digital transformation and the progress achieved.
The presentations were followed by engaging Q&A sessions with the audience. Marina Dreux Frotté, GPE KIX EMAP Education Policy, Evaluation, and Learning Lead closed the event, highlighting upcoming opportunities and collaboration on this topic.
