The KIX regional hub for Latin America and the Caribbean (KIX LAC) held its first Annual Meeting on January 21, 2021, where representatives from the eight member countries in the region, the advisory board and the managing team of the KIX LAC hub shared results from the previous year and the plans for 2021. The objective of this first meeting was to create a convening space for representatives of the countries that make up the LAC hub to share knowledge, innovations, and experiences that contribute to the improvement of education in the region. Likewise, a joint work agenda was established to effectively address the critical problems identified in these countries, emphasizing teacher training, inclusion and the new environments generated by COVID-19.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Javier González, Director of SUMMA, thanked OECS, GPE and IDRC, and partners of the KIX initiative, and commented that 2020 was a challenging year for humanity, especially for Latin American countries, where they learned about the importance of the collective over the individual. To add to this, Tricia Wind, Program Leader for the KIX Initiative, emphasized that KIX is a mechanism for exchange where education stakeholders can share experiences and can access resources and tools to facilitate learning processes.

The meeting also included the formal presentation of the newly created Advisory Council. This council will contribute its invaluable experience in education worldwide to help implement and guide the projects and initiatives that KIX LAC will develop in the future with the countries of the region.
