Call for Abstracts: 5th GPE KIX Africa Research Symposium
Submissions are open. The Symposium, "Education Financing in Africa: Navigating Fiscal Constraints, Expanding Demand and Systems Transformation", will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, in October 2026, with abstracts due by 10 July 2026.
Led by UNICEF ESARO and jointly organized by the GPE KIX Africa 19 and Africa 21 Hubs, the Symposium invites policymakers, Ministries of Education and Finance, researchers, development partners, universities, regional institutions, civil society organizations, and practitioners to share evidence and experiences from across Africa.
The Symposium will examine how African countries are financing education systems amid growing fiscal pressure, rising demand, and increasing calls for system transformation, bridging the gap between research, policy, and financing decisions.
What We're Looking For
We particularly welcome submissions that demonstrate:
- Policy uptake or financing commitment
- Evidence-informed financing reform
- Allocation efficiency and expenditure tracking
- Sustainable domestic financing approaches
- Equity-focused financing models
- Scalable, system-level impact
Thematic Areas
Submissions are invited across the following themes:
- Financing for access and equity
- Financing for early childhood education (ECE), foundational learning, and the teacher workforce
- Financing for skills and secondary-age pathways
- Financing for data systems reform, technology, and system efficiency
- Financing for resilience, peace, climate, and crisis response
