BRIDGE-IDAs Project Advances with Life Skills Education Facilitators' Training

The Building Resilience through Inclusive Development and Gender-Responsive Life Skills Education for Internally Displaced Adolescents in Nigeria (BRIDGE-IDAs) project achieved a significant milestone with a two-day Life Skills Education (LSE) Facilitators' Training held on September 8–9, 2025.

The training represents the latest development in the project's implementation timeline, following a joint-stakeholders workshop in March and a contextualization workshop in August.

The facilitators' training was designed to accomplish three key objectives:

  • Provide facilitators with comprehensive knowledge of the contextualized BRIDGE-IDAs LSE framework, including four core modules, twelve essential skills, and session-specific activities
  • Equip participants with the capacity to deliver sessions using gender-responsive and inclusive approaches
  • Strengthen facilitators' ability to ensure socio-cultural acceptability of programming in both displacement and host community settings.

Highlights

Participants engaged with the project's four contextualized modules, personal empowerment, learning, social interaction, and career paths, gaining an in-depth understanding of the twelve core skills integrated throughout the curriculum.

The training commenced with an overview of the BRIDGE-IDAs project objectives and implementation strategy, followed by detailed sessions on effective LSE delivery using gender-responsive, inclusive, and learner-centered methodologies.

Special emphasis was placed on socio-cultural considerations and participatory teaching techniques to ensure content remains contextually relevant and culturally appropriate for both internally displaced adolescents and host community participants.

A self-efficacy survey administered at the beginning and conclusion of the training revealed marked improvements in participants' confidence and competence scores, confirming the training's effectiveness in building facilitation skills and readiness.

Interactive demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, and practical exercises enabled facilitators to gain clarity on session objectives, learning activities, and facilitation approaches.

Next Steps

The project will next focus on developing and translating infographic guides, pilot-testing the intervention in a neutral IDP settlement, conducting sensitization meetings with internally displaced adolescents, and commencing LSE delivery.
