SCALING-UP INNOVATIVE GENDER, INCLUSION AND SAFEGUARDING APPROACHES IN EDUCATION IN MALAWI
Policy Brief
This policy brief examines the factors that enable or hinder the scaling‑up of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) education interventions in Malawi, Uganda, and Ethiopia. It finds that strong community engagement, capacity‑building, policy alignment, and practical tools support scale‑up, while inadequate resources, harmful cultural practices, limited staffing, and weak ownership present major barriers. The brief recommends strengthening community structures, developing practical implementation tools, and addressing cultural norms to improve the sustainability and effectiveness of GESI initiatives.
