Building Responsive EMIS Policies for Robust Education Data Systems: Insights from the 2nd KIX Africa 19 Knowledge Café
The 2nd KIX Knowledge Café on Education Data Systems, convened virtually on July 22, 2025, by the African Union Commission's Pan African Institute for Education for Development (AU-IPED) under the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX), a joint endeavour with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. It brought together policymakers, Education Management Information System (EMIS) leads, and experts from over 15 African countries.
This policy brief synthesizes the event's discussions, highlighting national experiences in EMIS policy development, digital transformation, and challenges in data utilization. Drawing from presentations by Mozambique, The Gambia, Nigeria, South Sudan, and KIX grantee Zizi Afrique Foundation, it identifies key issues and proposes recommendations for building responsive, sustainable EMIS frameworks aligned with the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 26-35) and Agenda 2063.
