Enfants non scolarisés ou à risque d’abandon scolaire

Generating and mobilizing targeted approaches to get every child to enrol and attend school

Globally, over 250 million children are out of school. This can result from a variety of overlapping emergency situations,  including political instability and climate crises. Without access to education, children are deprived of opportunities for literacy, numeracy, social interaction and structured learning environments facilitated by trained teachers.

Our work addresses the unique challenges faced by out-of-school and at-risk learners in fragile and conflict-affected settings. We collaborate with national stakeholders to support re-entry pathways, strengthen teacher training, and promote safe, flexible, and inclusive learning environments. Grounded in evidence and equity, we aim to ensure every child has the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.

KEY RESULTS

In Sierra Leone, findings from the project A Comparative Study of Accelerated Education Programs and Girls’ Focused Education Models in Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone contributed to the development of the National Guidelines for Accelerated Education. The research provided the Ministry of Education with data on out-of-school children and highlighted the benefits  of AEPs, especially their role in supporting girls  transition into formal education. With USD22 million funding from the Qatar Foundation, Sierra Leone is now leveraging this  evidence to inform a comprehensive review of the country’s AEPs with technical support from the research team and access to best practices shared by other West African countries.
