The KIX Africa 19 Hub, through UNICEF’s Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO), is organizing a learning exchange between Lesotho and Kenya from 19th to 23rd August 2024.

The aim of this event is to foster collaboration on inclusive education teacher training and for Kenya to learn from Lesotho’s experience in implementing inclusive education. The Kenyan delegation will visit the UNICEF Senior Management Team and Permanent Secretary for Education in Lesotho, and will participate in an orientation session on Lesotho's education policies, curriculum, and functional assessment of children with disabilities. The delegation will also visit two primary schools to observe teacher readiness in promoting inclusion as well as Lesotho College of Education which is mandated with teacher training on inclusive education. The two ministries will develop a roadmap on further collaboration on teacher training on inclusive education.

The exchange will be between two delegations from Kenya and Lesotho made up of officials from the Ministries of Education, representatives from the Kenya Institute of Special Education, and staff from the UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office and the Kenya and Lesotho Country Offices.

This activity follows the successful learning event on disability-inclusive education organized in September 2023 in Kenya, after which the Lesotho delegation expressed interest in further collaboration with Kenya on capacity development for teachers on inclusive education through in-service teachers training.
