Data for strengthened teaching and learning for better classrooms outcomes

Across Africa, countries are investing significantly in education data systems. However, much of this data is still underutilised in improving teaching practices, learner outcomes and classroom experiences. While governments routinely collect information on enrolment, attendance and assessment, questions remain about how this evidence can better support teachers, strengthen instructional practice and improve foundational learning.

The Unlocking Data Initiative Community of Learning provides a collaborative space for researchers, policymakers, practitioners and development partners to exchange experiences on how education data can move beyond reporting requirements to become a practical tool for improving teaching and learning.

This session will explore how different stakeholders are generating and using classroom evidence, teacher perspectives and assessment data to strengthen education systems. Participants will hear practical examples from researchers and practitioners working across Africa and contribute their own experiences through interactive breakout discussions.

Objectives

The Community of Learning aims to:

• Explore how education data can strengthen teaching and learning.
• Share practical experiences from different country contexts.
• Understand teachers' perspectives on using evidence in classrooms.
• Identify opportunities to improve the collection and use of classroom-level data.

• Generate practical recommendations for future research, policy and practice.
